 "The Forgotten Woods"

Deep in the heart of an ancient forest, shrouded in mist and mystery, lay the Forgotten Woods. Locals avoided it, telling tales of strange occurrences and eerie sounds that echoed through the trees at night. It was said that the woods were cursed, haunted by the spirits of those who had wandered in and never returned.

One autumn evening, a group of adventurous friends—Sarah, Jake, Lily, and Max—decided to challenge the legend. They were drawn by the thrill of the unknown and armed with flashlights, a camera, and a bravado that masked their unease. The sun dipped below the horizon, casting long shadows as they entered the dense underbrush, laughter echoing in the cool air.

As they walked deeper into the woods, the atmosphere shifted. The laughter faded, replaced by an unsettling silence. The trees loomed overhead, gnarled branches twisting like skeletal fingers against the darkening sky. Just as they were about to turn back, they stumbled upon an old, crumbling cabin, hidden beneath layers of vines and foliage.

Intrigued, they approached the cabin. Its door hung ajar, creaking ominously as they pushed it open. Inside, dust danced in the faint beam of their flashlights, revealing forgotten furniture covered in tattered sheets. The air was thick with decay and something else—something unnamable.

Jake, the most daring of the group, suggested they explore further. “What’s the worst that could happen?” he laughed, stepping into the dimly lit main room. As he moved, the floorboards groaned beneath him. The others hesitated but soon followed, drawn by curiosity.

In the corner of the room, they discovered an old journal. Its pages were yellowed and brittle, filled with frantic scrawls about dark rituals and the forest’s hidden secrets. It spoke of a curse placed upon anyone who dared to disturb the slumber of the woods’ spirits.

Suddenly, a chilling wind swept through the cabin, extinguishing their flashlights. Panic surged through the group as they fumbled in the dark, desperately trying to turn the lights back on. When the lights flickered to life again, they gasped in horror.

Standing at the window was a figure—a woman in a tattered white dress, her long hair hanging over her face, eyes hollow and empty. She pointed toward the woods, a silent warning that sent shivers down their spines.

“Run!” Sarah screamed, her voice breaking the spell. They turned to flee, bursting out of the cabin and into the night. The forest felt alive, branches grasping at them as they ran. The sounds of whispers and cries filled the air, echoing through the trees like a sinister symphony.

They ran until they reached the edge of the woods, hearts pounding and breathless. Looking back, they saw the cabin engulfed in mist, the figure no longer visible. But they could hear her voice, soft and haunting, carried by the wind.

“You shouldn’t have come,” it echoed, chilling them to the bone.

From that day on, the friends never spoke of what happened in the Forgotten Woods. The laughter they once shared was replaced with an unspoken fear, a haunting reminder that some places are better left undisturbed. The woods remained, dark and foreboding, waiting for the next curious soul to wander in and forget their way out.
